Tata Steel Limited is an Indian multinational steel company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and part of the Tata Group. Formerly known as Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited (TISCO), it was established in Jamshedpur on 26 August 1907 by Jamsetji Tata and Dorabji Tata.
The company is among the largest steel producers in India and ranked eighth globally by crude steel production in 2024. In the 2025 financial year it reported revenue of ₹220,083 crore (US$23 billion) and employed about 78,300 people. Its major operations include steelmaking in India, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, including the Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar plants, Tata Steel Netherlands, and the Port Talbot Steelworks.
Tata Steel expanded outside India through acquisitions including NatSteel, Millennium Steel, and the 2007 purchase of Corus Group, which made it one of the world's largest steelmakers at the time. In the 2020s, its European business has been shaped by restructuring, decarbonisation pressures, and a UK Government-backed plan to replace blast furnaces at Port Talbot with an electric arc furnace.
